Many great tributes have been paid to Bob Marley.  The extraordinary amount of attention paid to Bob Marley at the millennium was astounding.  The New York Times wrote “Bob Marley was the most influential artist of the second half of the 20 th Century.”   Bob Marley's “One Love” was the anthem of the Millennium by the BBC. Perhaps the most unexpected and most important honor came from TIME magazine when they voted Bob Marley's “Exodus” as the “Best album of the 20 th Century.”  Jack Healy, the President of Amnesty International says that “everywhere I go Bob Marley is the symbol of freedom.”  The mark this man left on the world is amazing considering he was born fatherless and in poverty in a tiny town in the country of Jamaica and grew up in the dangerous “trench town” part of Kingston with no money and even less opportunity.  Because of the remarkable achievements in Bob Marley's live he was awarded the Order of Merit, the third highest honor, from the Jamaican government and officially recognized as a national hero.  Bob Marley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 1994.

Remarkably, still to this very day, Bob Marley accounts for HALF of all reggae sales worldwide and he has been deceased for 24 years.  His album “Legend” has been on Billboards chart for an astonishing 810 weeks and is currently at the #6 position!  He has sold over 300 million records.  Bob Marley's songs are an inspiration to millions of people all over the world.  His songs of love, rebellion and spirituality make him a global icon.  Bob Marley wrote songs and was produced by Clement (Sir Coxsone) Dodd of Studio One fame, Leslie Kong and Lee “Scratch” Perry in the early days.  Lee “Scratch” Perry is the main man associated with almost inventing the reggae sound.  Marley had some of his best work with “Scratch” including “Soul Rebel,” “Dupy Conqueror,” “400 Years” and “Small Axe,” they were all classics that defined the direction of a new musical form that had begun to evolve called reggae.  Eventually, Bob Marley met Island Records founder Chris Blackwell and his association with Island Records began.  His work with Island Records is his most popular work and he released a dozen records beginning with Catch A Fire in April of 1973 through Uprising in June of 1980.  Confrontation was released posthumously in June of 1983 and of course…Legend in May of 1984.  Bob worked with a variety of producers and labels and he released an astonishing amount of reggae music for a career that ended for him at age 36.

Box sets continue to be released to this very day and three “must have” box sets for Marley fans are “Songs of Freedom” released by Tuff Gong in September of 1992 and the three part “The Complete Bob Marley & The Wailers” from JAD Records released in 1996.  The third box set was released in March of 2004, a long awaited 3-CD box set called “Grooving Kingston 12” from Hip-O Records which contains 71 unreleased Marley gems from the JAD Master tapes from 1970 – 1972.  This box set is released with the Marley family blessing and the correct royalties being paid.  This is an important fact, especially in reggae.  There are many rip offs and poorly produced CD's but these three box sets are important bodies of work that every Marley fan should have in their collection.

Bob Marley's songs will never go out of fashion and will go on forever.  The Casanova restaurant is expecting a big crowd so be there early.  The tribute to Robert Nesta Marley will be out of respect to his songs of freedom and his universal message of One Love.

I am the promoter and producer of this event.  If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to email me or call me.  You can also call Casanova if you have any questions.
